On Wednesday this week Year 1 were very excited to go on their trip to Gawthorpe Hall to take part in a series of events themed around a Victorian Christmas. They met Duncan the butler who taught them some traditional parlour games and songs. He was very funny and there was lots of laughter during this session. He also handled the question “Why are you bald?” exceptionally well! The children also met cook in the kitchen where she told them all about how she makes Christmas puddings for the master and where all of the ingredients come from. The children were fascinated to know that it would take weeks to get all of the ingredients delivered from different places instead of just popping to Asda! There was also a craft activity and they got to meet the man himself Father Christmas who captivated their attention – they have never been so quiet! It was a wonderful morning and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They behaved fantastically and did Northern proud!
