On a wet and very blustery morning 50 pupils walked from Northern Primary School to one of the highest war memorials in in England on Deerplay Moor above Weir.
The annual Remembrance Day walk was made by Years 5 and 6 pupils escorted by staff, parents and police officers.
Many drivers passing the crocodile of children on the busy Burnley Road gave them a toot.
The children then weaved their way up to the hilltop where the cross stands and eight children delivered readings and a poem.
Year 6 teacher Sandra Melvin said: “Although the weather was harsh, the children behaved themselves excellently and were very respectful. They delivered their speeches very well.”
Whitworth Community High School Year 11 student Luke Turner, who plays with 2nd Rossendale Scout Group Senior Band, played the Last Post in extremely difficult conditions because of the wind.
The service was led by Miles Alderson from Weir Baptist Church and community representatives also attended.
